Christmas Island is one of the Cape Breton communities where you will find that the road signs are posted in Gaelic as well as English. Through Comunn Féis an Eilein, the community has actively promoted the Gaelic language and culture in the area, presenting concerts, workshops and other learning opportunities throughout the year. August 2010 marks the 20th annual Féis an Eilein. This concert offers a unique and very traditional Cape Breton experience. It starts with a traditional Milling Frolic where participants sit around a milling table and sing the songs that would have accompanied the working of newly woven cloth for use. There may be milling songs presented in other settings, but this is the only time they will sit down around a milling table. This will be followed by a traditional ceilidh with Meantime, Lewis MacKinnon, and Goiridh Dòmhnallach. Lewis, Goiridh and the guys in Meantime will have been working together on writing some new songs and if we're lucky, we might just get a glimpse of some of the ones that will show up the next night at the concert in Mabou.

Prior to the show, there is a Stuffed Chicken Breast Dinner being served up in Iona, less than 10 minutes from the concert venue.
