Asham Stompers

Manitoba

The Asham Stompers are a very high energy Jig and Square Dance group that brings fans to their feet everywhere they perform. Their mission is "...to help recapture and preserve the history of the Métis people through the Traditional dancing of Red River Jig”. They combine "Red River Jig" with traditional square dance aptly called the "Red River Dance".

Formed in 2002, they have performed at The Winnipeg World Curling Championships, The Curling Skins Game in Gimli, The Canadian Curling Championships (The Brier), The Dauphin Countryfest, Milwaukee Wisconsin Indian Summer Festival, half time shows at Winnipeg Blue Bombers football games, Folklorama, Festival Du Voyageur, the World Curling Championships in Grand Forks North Dakota, and the 2010 Winter Olympics in British Columbia. They have also toured Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario.

The group consists of lead couple Cathy Genaille & Arnold Asham, Charmaine Raynor & Grant Thompson, Ashley Harris & Patrick McKay, Felicia Morrisseau & Glen Murdock, Shayna Genaille & Dave Raynor, Jacob & Michael Harris and Brandon Courchene. The Asham Stompers perform to live music by well known Manitoba Fiddler Shawn Mousseau.

The Stompers took Celtic Colours audiences by storm in 2011, and there was just no question that we would get them back for this year's festival.
