Breagh Mackinnon

Cape Breton

Breagh Mackinnon has been charming audiences across the Maritimes since releasing her debut, self-titled EP in January of 2011. Raised in a musical family, this young Cape Breton singer songwriter packages carefully crafted lyrics, smooth, satisfying vocals, and raw musical ability into her every performance.

The beginning of Breagh’s career was marked by winning a Cape Breton wide high school Talent Search, Cape Breton’s Next Big Thing. The competition award, which included recording time at Lakewind Sound Studios, allowed her to record seven original tunes for her demo E.P. The album single, “Heartstrings”, spent eight weeks in the top five on the East Coast Countdown and has been featured on a number of Maritime radio programs including CBC’s “Atlantic Airwaves”.

Since the release, Breagh has been busy playing at numerous venues around the East Coast including East Coast Music Awards and Music Nova Scotia Week showcases, and a mainstage tweener showcase at the 2011 Stan Rogers Folk Festival. This summer she expands her horizons with performances at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, the Ottawa Blues fest, and the Cavendish Beach Festival.

Breagh’s writing is marked by a sophisticated authenticity that was recognized by multiple-award winning singer-songwriter Gordie Sampson who invited her along with several other young Nova Scotia writers to participate in a song writing camp in August 2011. She has since joined to co-write with artists such as Dylan Guthro, Steven MacDougall and Gordie Sampson.
