Derrick and Melody Cameron live in West Mabou, Inverness County on a small dairy farm. They have performed music together for more than 20 years, playing dances, pubs and concerts throughout Cape Breton. They have performed alongside other Cape Breton musicians at the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, played and taught workshops in the New England States, at the Washington Irish Folk Festival, Celtic Colours, the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention in Aberdeen, Scotland and at the Barga School of Scots Music, Song and Dance in Italy. They have served as board members of Comunn Féis Mhàbu (2004-2016), and are currently on the West Mabou Development Association’s committee helping manage the weekly West Mabou Square Dances. Melody is also an accomplished step dancer who has performed and taught throughout the Atlantic Provinces, been featured in TV and film productions, and worked as choreographer for the Rankins. In the summer of 2017, Melody started the Mabou School of Cape Breton Step Dance featuring some of Cape Breton’s finest instructors and a series of presentations focusing on step dance related topics.
