Lawrence Cameron

Cape Breton

Born and raised in Margaree Forks, Inverness County, Lawrence Cameron has been a part of the musical Cape Breton culture since his childhood. Surrounded by a family that has musically-renowned names such as Rankins and Beatons, he grew up with a deep knowledge and love for the tradition. Lawrence later trained and graduated from Acadia University with a Music Education degree and has taught music both in public and private schools since his teens. He and his wife Jeanette have two children, Douglas and Rose, who are musicians in their own right today. Besides performing, Lawrence retired from 33 years of teaching music and now and takes the time to pass on the tradition by teaching piano privately and at Colaisde na Gàidhlig / the Gaelic College in St. Ann’s, Cape Breton.
