Shannon is Artistic Director, performer, and choreographer with the Forrester School of Dance in Sydney, Nova Scotia, currently entering its 49th year of teaching dance excellence on Cape Breton Island. Shannon has been dancing since the age of 4, under the direction of her mother, champion dancer Eileen (Pottie) Forrester. Shannon is a multi-award winning dancer and choreographer who specializes in Highland Dance, Cape Breton Step Dance, Celtic Step Dance, Scottish Ballet and Liturgical Dance - and has garnered a reputation as a versatile instructor, performer, and choreographer. Shannon has performed all across Canada, throughout the United States, Europe and Asia – and regularly travels adjudicating festivals and conducting workshops both here and abroad. Shannon has been featured in several major productions and television programs, such as the East Coast Music Awards, the Celtic Colours International Festival, several of Rita MacNeil's Celtic Specials, the Halifax International Tattoo, CBC's "The Pit Pony" television series and movie "Margaret's Museum”, “Good Morning America”, and more. Throughout her performing career, Shannon had the privilege of guest appearing with many talented award winning artists from Cape Breton Island and others on a national and international level.
During this year’s festival, Shannon will be featured in shows as a solo performer as well as performing alongside members of the school’s senior dance company. Shannon continues to carry on the family tradition of teaching dance on Cape Breton Island - which has now existed in her family for over 68 years.
In addition, Shannon holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Cape Breton University and, by day, is employed with the Government of Canada.
