From the Cape Breton Post – May 24, 2001
Cape Breton’s Celtic Colours International Festival has been named the top cultural event in the nation by Attractions Canada.
A total of 98 attractions, events and sites from coast to coast were nominated for Attractions Canada this year. Fourteen winners in a variety of categories were announced Wednesday night at a gala event in Halifax.
An Island–wide music festival started in October 1997, Celtic Colours annually brings more than 200 Celtic performers from around the globe. Events take place over 9 days at more than 30 venues, from small community halls to Cape Breton’s largest stages.
The festival also offers a workshop component, allowing visitors and locals to actively participate in the island’s living Celtic culture.
This year’s festival takes place Oct. 5 – 13. A full list of performers and events will be announced in June.
