Celtic Colours International Festival was named Event of the
Year at the 2006 East Coast Music Awards in Charlottetown, Prince
Edward Island, capping off a record-breaking year in sales. Festival
Directors Max MacDonald and Joella Foulds accepted the award during the
ECMA Industry Awards and Dinner held at the Delta Prince Edward
Ballroom on February 26, 2006.
This is the second consecutive
year the Cape Breton Island-based festival, which featured over 400
artists during 48 performances at venues across Cape Breton Island, has
received this honour. Being named ECMA Event of the Year caps off a
banner year for the festival which was also recognized by the Tourism
Industry Association of Nova Scotia in November when it was awarded the
Golden Hospitality Award.

Anniversary festival this October.”
More than nineteen thousand
tickets were sold for the 2005 production of Celtic Colours, attracting
thousands of music fans from 45 US states, 12 Canadian provinces and
territories and 25 other countries. In addition to the concerts, over
50 workshops were hosted by community groups, the Schools Program
presented to more than 6000 students in Cape Breton and the third
annual Visual Art series was well-attended. The nine-day festival had
an economic impact of $5 million.
In its nine-year history, the Celtic Colours International Festival has
received a Tourism Association of Nova Scotia’s Crystal Award for
Events / Conferences 2002, and was named American Bus Association’s Top
Event in Canada and Attractions Canada’s Top Cultural Event in 2001.
Celtic Colours International Festival will celebrate its tenth
anniversary with this year’s edition, October 6-14, 2006. The schedule
