(Sydney, N.S.) It’s difficult to imagine the cool days of
October while you’re in the midst of an East Coast heat wave. However,
that’s exactly what fans of the Celtic Colours International Festival,
which runs from October 7-15, have been doing for the last week.
Now in its ninth year, the Festival has experienced record sales since
tickets went on sale July 11. Sales were up 27% over the same period
one year ago.
“It’s very gratifying to see that there is a growing audience for the
direction we have taken with Celtic Colours,” said Festival Director
The tickets were evenly distributed between American and Canadian buyers.
“People travel here from all over the world and they want to be sure
they have tickets to the shows they want to see,” said MacDonald,
explaining the early interest in ticket buying.
This year’s event will feature 48 concerts during nine days in
communities all over Cape Breton Island, a similar number of workshops,
a schools’ program and a visual arts program. There will be performers
coming from all over Canada, the United States, Ireland, Scotland,
England and Denmark.
New to the festival this year are two opening shows, taking place
simultaneously in Sydney and Port Hawkesbury. Both of these shows will
be presented in brand new venues—the Sydney Marine Terminal and the
Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
