Irish Roots & Rhythms

Thursday October 16th

L'Ardoise Community Centre, L'Ardoise – 7:30 PM, Tickets: $30/25, Reserved Seating

In the 1840’s Irish immigrants arrived in large numbers to settle in both urban and rural communities in Quebec. They brought their music with them and as a result there was a major impact on the music of that region. Tonight we’ll actually hear the connection as Sharon Shannon from Ireland and De Temps Antan from Quebec meet in L’Ardoise. The rhythms, instrumentation and sheer energy are things they have in common. Accordions, fiddles and foot stompin’ reels are sure to feel very familiar in this Acadian community. Add to the mix some Cape Breton fiddle, Gaelic songs and step dancing, provided by Anita and Ben, and the evening will be complete. I would be wary of the energy level at this concert. It could be way too much fun when they all get together!
