The music of Cape Breton is renowned for its distinctive sound, including its piano accompaniment. The unique style of piano playing took several decades to develop, but by the 1950s was firmly established, and a new generation of pianists began to make their mark. Mac Morin is Artist in Residence for 2014 and is passionate about tracing the evolution of the Cape Breton piano from accompaniment to a solo medium. Joining him tonight will be three of the best of this generation…Tracey Dares MacNeil, Troy MacGillivray and Erin Leahy. Through solos and ensembles accompanied by cello, guitar and percussion, the four pianos will demonstrate the many past and present influences. Since all four are also spectacular dancers, expect to see some steps along the way.
