Living Traditions

Thursday October 17th

Cape Breton Highlands Academy, Belle Côte – 7:30 PM, Tickets: $30/25, Reserved Seating

Tonight we’ll see that tradition is a living thing, kept alive by those who live it. Dave MacIsaac, Winnie Chafe, Maybelle Chisholm McQueen, and Karen and Joey Beaton are synonymous with Cape Breton fiddle and piano tradition. Fiddler Peter Uhrbrand is from Fanø, Denmark where there is a strong living tradition of fiddle and dance. Singer, piper, and storyteller Rona Lightfoot from South Uist in Scotland is one of Gaeldom’s great treasures. And American-born Irish fiddler Liz Carroll, lauded in America and Ireland for her contribution to traditional music, proves the point.
