Songs of Work and Protest

Tuesday October 9th

Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River – 7:30 PM, Tickets: $30/25, Reserved Seating

Cape Breton has a long history of mining and labour struggles, much of which has been chronicled in song. A recent project by the Centre for Cape Breton Studies created protest songs from verse found in a labour newspaper from the 1920s. The lyrics were put to music by a collection of contemporary songwriters. Tonight we take the project to the next level by presenting the songs arranged and performed in concert. The famous Men of the Deeps show their approval in spades as they listen for future repertoire.
