Monday October 13th
Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church Hall, Sydney – 2:00 PM, Tickets: $30/25, Reserved Seating
Whitney Pier came of age in the early 20th century as heavy industry, mainly associated with coal mining and steel making, attracted immigrants from all over the world looking for work and opportunity. Many settled and started families here, becoming part of the multi-cultural fabric that is at the heart of this community. Today, in conjunction with Cape Breton University’s Singing Storytellers International Conference, Celtic Colours is pleased to welcome writer, musician, spoken word artist Shauntay Grant, American-born Ukrainian musician and singer Julian Kytasty, and one of Ireland's best traditional Gaelic singers, Lillis Ó Laoire. They will join Cape Breton fiddler Colin Grant and Gaelic singer Mary Jane Lamond for an afternoon exploration of music and stories from Ukrainian, African Nova Scotian, Irish and Cape Breton traditions.
