Tickets for the seventh annual Celtic Colours International
Festival go on sale Monday, July 14 at 9:00 am, Atlantic Standard Time.
That may seem pretty specifically stated, but when you are selling
tickets all over the world, you have to be that specific.
get calls from all over the United States from people anxious to buy
their tickets, long before the tickets even go on sale,” says Dave
Mahalik, Information Officer for the Festival and on the front lines of
the phones. “When I tell them July 14, they want to know what time on
July 14. So I have to find out where they are calling from, what time
zone they are in. Invariably, there will be someone calling from the
west coast, making plans to get up at 5:00 am on Monday so they won1t
miss out on tickets to the shows they want to see.”
Visitors from around the world are attracted to Celtic Colours
International Festival for its unique celebration of Cape Breton
Island1s living Celtic culture. The 2003 festival opens October 10 at
Centre 200 in Sydney with the Gala Opening Concert and wraps up with
the World1s Biggest Square Dance in Baddeck on October 18. During those
nine days, while the leaves turn their magnificent Autumn colours,
there will be 44 concerts in 33 communities around the island featuring
some of the best local talent as well as artists from Scotland,
Ireland, Spain, Wales, Germany, England, United States and Canada.
Last year, over 18,000 tickets were purchased. Ticket buyers
represented every Canadian province and territory, 47 US states and 18
countries. One-half of the ticket buyers were from off Island and 17%
of the tickets were purchased online through Select-a-Seat.
“Once these tickets go on sale, they are being purchased by people from
North America and beyond,” says Joella Foulds, one of the Festival
organizers. “Many of the shows will sell out in advance. So if there1s
a show you want to see, you should pick up your tickets early,” she
advises. Tickets are also available locally, in the communities where
the concerts are scheduled.
